Section 3:4641 - Standard rule for measuring saw logsA. The standard rule or scale for the measurement of saw logs in this state is the Doyle Log Rule.B. The procedure for using the Doyle Log Rule is as follows: Deduct four inches from the top diameter of the log inside the bark as an allowance for slab and edging. Square one-quarter of the remainder and multiply by the length of the log in feet. The result is the contents in board feet.
C. The formula and values for the Doyle Log Rule are as follows: (1) The formula is: B.F. =((D-4)/4)2 x L
(2) The values for the elements of the formula are as follows: (a) "B.F." is the volume in board feet.(b) "D" is the top diameter of the log inside the bark in inches.(c) "L" is the length of the log in feet.
