Rule 5A:16 - Perfection of Appeal; Docketing(a)Appeals as a Matter of Right. - In cases when an appeal lies as a matter of right to this Court, such appeal is perfected by the timely filing of a notice of appeal pursuant to Rule 5A:6. Such case will be considered mature for purposes of further proceedings from the date the record is filed in the office of the clerk of this Court. A party filing a notice of an appeal of right to this Court must simultaneously file in the trial court an appeal bond if required by Code § 8.01-676.1. (b)Grant of Petition for Appeal. - Promptly after a petition for appeal has been granted by this Court, the clerk of this Court must certify this action to the trial court and all counsel. Such case is considered mature for purposes of further proceedings from the date of such certificate.(c)Docketing. - Cases are placed on the docket in the order in which they mature provided that cases will be given precedence as required by statute. This Court may, however, for good cause shown or for reasons appearing sufficient to this Court, give preference to other cases.
