Section 205.55-4 - Labeling-compliance(a)(1) The manufacturer of any vehicle subject to the provisions of § 205.52 shall, at the time of manufacture, affix a permanent, legible label, of the type and in the manner described below, containing the information hereinafter provided, to all such vehicles to be distributed in commerce. The labels shall be affixed in such a manner that they cannot be removed without destroying or defacing them, and shall not be affixed to any equipment which is easily detached from such vehicle.(2) A label shall be permanently attached, in a readily visible position, in the operator's compartment.(3) Labels for vehicles not manufactured solely for use outside the United States shall contain the following information lettered in the English language in block letters and numerals, which shall be of a color that contrasts with the background of the label:(i) The label heading: Vehicle Noise Emission Control Information;(ii) Full corporate name and trademark of manufacturer;(iii) Month and year of manufacture;(iv) The statement: This Vehicle Conforms to U.S. EPA Regulations for Noise Emission Applicable to Medium and Heavy Trucks.
The following acts or the causing thereof by any person are prohibited by the Noise Control Act of 1972:
(A) The removal or rendering inoperative, other than for purposes of maintenance, repair, or replacement, of any noise control device or element of design (listed in the owner's manual) incorporated into this vehicle in compliance with the Noise Control Act;(B) The use of this vehicle after such device or element of design has been removed or rendered inoperative.(b) Labels for vehicles manufactured solely for use outside the United States shall contain the words "For Export Only."41 FR 15544, Apr. 13, 1976, as amended at 42 FR 61456, 61458, Dec. 5, 1977.
