Opinion
01 Civ. 7356 (LAK).
April 29, 2002
ORDER
The Court is in receipt of a letter from an individual who purports to be an attorney in the Bahamas and to represent defendant Tanja Enterprises Co. Limited ("Tanja"). Among other things, she claims that Tanja has not been served in accordance with Bahamian law and denies liability on its behalf.
Only attorneys admitted to the Bar of this Court may enter appearances on behalf of corporations. Accordingly, Bahamian counsel has no right of audience here, and her letter is of no legal significance. Further, the appropriate mode of responding to a complaint is by the filing of an answer or the making of a motion in accordance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, not by writing a letter to the judge.
The communication from Bahamian counsel for Tanja is treated as a nullity. If Tanja wishes to be heard in this Court, it must engage counsel permitted to appear here and comply with all appropriate rules and statutes.
SO ORDERED.
