STATE OF LOUISIANA v. BERNIE METREJEAN

In Re: State of Louisiana, applying for supervisory writs, 18th Judicial District Court, Parish of Iberville, No. 1259-13. BEFORE: WHIPPLE, C.J., McCLENDON AND HIGGINBOTHAM, JJ.

WRIT GRANTED. We are aware that the defendant is entitled to a reasonable bail amount. However, considering the seriousness of the charges in this case, and the recorded telephone conversation from jail wherein the defendant suggests offering the victim $10,000 to drop these charges, we find that the trial court abused its discretion in lowering bail to $100,000, and we reverse. The original $750,000 bail is reinstated pending further proceedings between the parties.
