In State v. Aponte, 249 Conn. 735, 745, 738 A.2d 117 (1999), our Supreme Court determined that the defendant's right to a fair trial was jeopardized by the prosecutor's gifting of a Barney doll to a child victim to hold while she testified.

We granted the defendant's petition limited to the following two issues: (1) "Did the Appellate Court properly conclude that the actions of the prosecutor did not result in a denial of due process?"; and (2) "Did the Appellate Court properly conclude that the trial court did not abuse its discretion in admitting the victim's testimony?" State v. Aponte, 247 Conn. 926, 719 A.2d 1169 (1998). Barney is the name of a purple dinosaur on an educational children's television show.
