DARYOUSH SAMEYAH & TRACEY SAMEYAH, Petitioners v. COMMISSIONER OF INTERNAL REVENUE, Respondent

ORDER

MARK V. HOLMES JUDGE.

This case is on the February 12, 2024 Los Angeles, California trial calendar. Petitioners moved without objection on December 7, 2023 to continue it for a second time. We spoke with the parties today to discuss progress, and both agreed that the major issue is a casualty-loss deduction. Petitioners did hire an appraiser who's made a site visit at the end of December. They promised to share his report with respondent. Respondent promised to then decide whether he'll need to retain an expert of his own or whether he'd be able to settle without doing so.

This is a reasonable way to proceed, so it is

ORDERED that petitioners' January 4, 2024 motion to continue is granted in that this case is stricken from the Court's February 12, 2024 Los Angeles, California trial calendar. It is also

ORDERED that this division of the Court retains jurisdiction. It is also

ORDERED that on or before March 18, 2024 the parties file a status report to describe their progress toward settlement or a narrowing of the issues to be tried.
