The People of the State of New York, Respondent, CONFIDENTIAL v. Craig Newsome, also known as Craig Newsom, Defendant-Appellant.


A purported appeal having been taken to this Court from the SORA order of the Supreme Court, New York County, entered on or about July 12, 2004, And defendant-appellant having moved pro se, for an order deeming the moving papers as a timely filed notice of appeal or, in the alternative, for permission to file an untimely notice of appeal pursuant to CPL 460.30, and for the assignment of counsel, Now, upon reading and filing the papers with respect to the motion, and due deliberation having been had thereon,It is ordered that the motion is granted to the extent of directing defendant-appellant to immediately file a notice of appeal from the SORA order entered on or about July 12, 2004, and granting defendant-appellant leave to renew this motion for poor person relief and assignment of counsel upon the filing of said notice of appeal.
