Attorney Regulation

The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved a Conditional Admission of Misconduct submitted by the parties and suspended Laurie A. Hurst (Attorney Registration No. 36575) for a period of three years, all but six months stayed upon the successful completion of a two and one-half year period of probation, effective September 11, 2007. Respondent, while serving as a Deputy District Attorney for the Eighteenth Judicial District, began an affair with an Eighteenth Judicial District magistrate in the spring of 2006. For the next several months, while Respondent practiced in the magistrate's courtroom, she engaged in conduct that brought disrepute upon the judiciary and the district attorney's office. Respondent's misconduct constituted grounds for the imposition of discipline pursuant to C.R.C.P. 251.5(b) and violated Colo. RPC 8.3(b), 8.4(c), 8.4(d) and 8.4(f).
