Opinion

SC 167294 COA 359801

11-08-2024

PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN, Plaintiff-Appellee, v. ADRIAN DESHAWN HILL, Defendant-Appellant.

Oakland CC: 2020-275569-FC

Elizabeth T. Clement, Chief Justice, Brian K. Zahra, David F. Viviano, Richard H. Bernstein, Megan K. Cavanagh, Elizabeth M. Welch, Kyra H. Bolden, Justices

ORDER

On order of the Court, the application for leave to appeal the May 23, 2024 judgment of the Court of Appeals is considered, and it is DENIED, because we are not persuaded that the questions presented should be reviewed by this Court.

WELCH, J. (dissenting).

For the reasons stated in my dissenting statement in People v Purdle, Mich. (2024) (Docket No. 166967) (WELCH, J., dissenting), I would have ordered additional briefing and oral argument in Purdle to consider the defendant's arguments against the legality of "de facto" life sentences. Accordingly, I would have held this case in abeyance pending resolution of Purdle.
