James Kazak & Grazyna B. Kazak Petitioners v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue Respondent

ORDER

Mark V. Holmes Judge.

This case is on the April 4, 2022 Los Angeles, California trial calendar. It's based on a notice of deficiency that raised issues of both income and deductions. Communication between the parties has been a bit rocky, and after petitioner moved to continue his case we spoke with the parties on March 8 and 23. After the first call, the flow of documents between the parties improved. In the March 23 call petitioner promised to provide the remaining records that he has and that respondent has asked for. Respondent agreed to meet petitioner in a Branerton conference during the week of May 2, 2022. The Court believes that if the parties speak with each other while looking at the same documents, the prospect of settlement will improve considerably.

With this plan in place, it is

ORDERED that petitioners' March 2, 2022 motion for a continuance is granted in that this case is stricken from the Court's April 4, 2022 trial calendar. It is also

ORDERED that this division of the Court retains jurisdiction. It is also

ORDERED that on or before May 20, 2022 respondent shall file a status report to describe the parties' progress toward settlement or a narrowing of the issues to be tried.
