In re Robert E. Shafer

Trial court: 56th District Court of Galveston County, Trial court case number: 99-CR-0484

ORDER

April Farris, Judge

On March 8, 2024, relator Robert E. Shafer, incarcerated and proceeding pro se, filed a petition for a writ of mandamus. In his mandamus petition, Shafer contends that the trial court "has abused its discretionary powers by failing or refusing to perform a ministerial act of setting, hearing and/or making a final ruling" on Shafer's "Motion for the Appointment of Counsel to Prepare Application for Habeas Corpus and Litigate Ineffective Assistance of Counsel." Shafer therefore requests that the Court "grant mandamus relief in the form of ordering [the trial court] to set, hear, and thereafter enter appropriate orders."

The Court requests a response to the petition for writ of mandamus from real party in interest, the State of Texas. The response, if any, is due to be filed with this Court no later than twenty days following the date of this order.

It is so ORDERED.
