IN RE GREGORY DEWAYNE NEWSON

Original Mandamus Proceeding

Before Stevens, C.J., van Cleef and Rambin, JJ.

ORDER

On July 19, 2024, Gregory DeWayne Newson, Relator, filed a motion for emergency relief pending a decision by this Court on his petition for writ of mandamus and for writ of prohibition. The motion for emergency relief asks this Court to stay the trial court's Rule 702 and 705 hearings scheduled for July 22-24, 2024. See Tex. R. Evid. 702, 705.

After reviewing Relators' motion for emergency relief, this Court is of the opinion that the temporary relief requested should be granted and that the Rule 702 and 705 hearings referenced above should be stayed pending the ruling of this Court on Relators' petition for writ of mandamus and writ of prohibition.

Therefore, the 702 and 705 hearings scheduled for July 22-24, 2024, are hereby stayed pending the ruling of this Court on the petition for writ of mandamus and for writ of prohibition before us in this case.

IT IS SO ORDERED.
