Opinion

Bar Docket No. 12817.

November 15, 2004.

ORDER

Brad L. Keil, an attorney admitted to the practice of law in Kansas, is presently the subject of ten disciplinary complaints pending before the Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys.

Respondent on November 2, 2004, filed a motion to be placed on Disability Inactive Status pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 220(c) (2003 Kan. Ct. R. Annot. 302), stating, in part, that he has stage 3 cancer in his lungs and is taking chemotherapy regularly which has rendered him unable to practice law or to adequately defend himself in the pending disciplinary cases.

On November 12, 2004, the Disciplinary Administrator, Stanton A. Hazlett, filed a response to respondent's motion stating that he has no objection to the respondent being placed on disability inactive status pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 220(c). Respondent has submitted satisfactory evidence, including medical records and a letter from his treating physician, verifying his illness and his inability to adequately make, or assist in making, a defense to the disciplinary changes presently pending against him.

Therefore, it is ordered that Brad L. Keil forthwith cease and desist from all practice of law in the State of Kansas, and that he is hereby immediately transferred to disability inactive status pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 220(c).

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that all presently pending disciplinary proceedings, complaints, and any future disciplinary complaints be stayed and held in abeyance until further order of this court pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 220.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this order applies only to disciplinary proceedings and complaints before the Kansas Board of Discipline for Attorneys and specifically does not apply to any civil or criminal proceedings or other matters involving the respondent.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Clerk of the Appellate Courts of Kansas mail a copy of this order to the respondent, Brad L. Keil, 1420 Woodland, Wichita, Kansas 67203, and to the Clerk of the District Court of Sedgwick County, Sedgwick County Courthouse, Wichita, Kansas 67203.
