IN THE INTEREST OF J.A.C., A CHILD

On Appeal from the 255th Judicial District Court Dallas County, Texas Trial Court Cause No. DF-23-03532

ORDER

ROBERT D. BURNS, III CHIEF JUSTICE.

On March 8, 2024, we notified appellant, a pro se inmate, that his brief was deficient and directed him to file, within ten days, a brief that complied with the rules of appellate procedure. Before the Court is appellant's March 21, 2024 motion for a forty-five day extension of time to file the brief and a copy of a sample brief. Appellant explains he did not receive the deficient brief notice until March 18, and he has limited knowledge of the law and court procedure.

We GRANT the motion and ORDER the brief filed no later than May 6, 2024. As appellant was sent a paper copy of the appellate record on December 27, 2023, we caution appellant that further extensions will not be granted absent exigent circumstances and failure to file the brief by May 6 may result in the appeal being either submitted on the deficient brief or dismissed without further notice.

Although the Court has previously provided appellant a copy of its "Information for People without Lawyers" handout, we DIRECT the Clerk of the Court to send appellant a paper copy of the Texas Young Lawyers Association "Pro Se Appellate Guide," a link to which is located on the Court's website under "Self-Help Resources."
