It appears necessary for the administration of justice by this Court that the Honorable Michael D. Ryan, formerly a Justice of this Court and now retired, be temporarily authorized to perform duties as assigned by the Chief Justice. Therefore, pursuant to Article VI, Section 20, of the Arizona Constitution,

IT IS ORDERED that the Honorable Michael D. Ryan is temporarily called back to active duty effective October 8, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Justice Ryan's duties shall include, but not be limited to, the following duties as directed by the Chief Justice:

1. Substitute for a justice and participate in deciding of cases;

2. Chair the Capital Case Oversight Commission;

3. Serve as a Hearing Officer for the Certification and Licensing Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts;

4. Represent the Chief Justice and the Court on committees, as assigned;

5. Represent the Court in meetings, conferences, and programs related to implementing evidence-based sentencing practices;

6. Serve as faculty for new judge orientation, the Arizona Judicial Conference, and State Bar programs for which Supreme Court representation is desirable;

7. Serve as a special master or special hearing officer for matters related to lawyer discipline or judicial conduct; and

8. Assist the Chief Justice and Court in other matters related to the administration of justice.
