Opinion

ORDER

Cheryl Gill has filed a motion for leave to withdraw as counsel for defendant in this matter. Before granting the motion, I will need to know whether defendant has any objection to it and if so, the grounds for her objections. In addition, I need assurance from defendant that she understands the consequences of her decision and her responsibility to engage new counsel or to proceed pro se.

Therefore, I will reserve a ruling on the motion for leave to withdraw until defendant has had an opportunity to advise the court of her position on the motion. If defendant does not respond to this opportunity to be heard by March 17, 2008, I will assume she has no objection. In that event, the motion will be granted.
