As lead counsel for the appellant, you are required to complete a docketing statement at the time you perfect your appeal. TEX. R. APP. P. 32.2. If you have not yet done so, please do so within ten (10) days. A copy of our docketing statement form is available on the Court's website for your convenience.
After obtaining docketing statements, one of the first hurdles in the appellate process is obtaining a complete record from the court below. We will be working with the clerk and court reporter of the trial court to see that this happens as soon as possible. In addition to our contacts, you are encouraged to contact the clerk and reporter regarding their completion of the record, and to see if there is anything they may need from you to allow them to complete their work.
Once we have received the complete record, we will notify the parties and the timetable for briefs will begin. You are encouraged to make every effort to timely file your brief. The Court prefers not to delay the appellate process by granting extensions for the filing of briefs. But if you have extenuating circumstances, you should immediately file a motion for extension of time, which the court will promptly consider.
Opinions are posted on the Court's official web site (http://www.txcourts.gov/12thcoa.aspx) within 24 hours of issuance. E-mailed notices are official notices of the court and replace written notices from the Clerk's office.
