EX PARTE ROBERT DENNIS
From the 413th District Court Johnson County, Texas
Trial Court No. DC-F201700022
MEMORANDUM OPINION
Robert Dennis has filed a pro se "Habeas Petition Request for Relief" in this Court. Dennis states that, on April 10, 2017, the trial court denied his pretrial application for habeas corpus relief and bond-reduction motion. Dennis states that he has "suffered great prejudice" because his appointed counsel erred in failing to "timely appeal after the habeas and bond reduction motion were denied" and because the trial court appointed his third attorney "well after" he was indicted. Dennis requests that we "rectify [this] great travesty of injustice."
Dennis's "habeas petition" appears to be an original petition for pretrial writ of habeas corpus. Our original jurisdiction to issue a writ of habeas corpus is limited to those cases in which a person's liberty is restrained because the person has violated an order, judgment, or decree entered in a civil case. See TEX. GOV'T CODE ANN. § 22.221(d) (West 2004); In re Shaw, 175 S.W.3d 901, 903 (Tex. App.-Texarkana 2005, orig. proceeding). This case does not fall within those requirements. Accordingly, we dismiss Dennis's "habeas petition" for want of jurisdiction.
