Trial court: 190th District Court of Harris County Trial court case number: 2021-77203
ORDER
Veronica Rivas-Molloy Judge
On April 17, 2024, Appellant Dreton Doan, proceeding pro se, filed a notice of appeal from the trial court's March 18, 2024 order granting summary judgment in favor of only Appellee Great Venture Properties, LP.
Appellant's brief was originally due on June 20, 2024. Appellant did not file a brief by the stated deadline. On June 27, 2024, the Clerk of this Court notified Appellant that his appellate brief was past due. On July 8, 2024, Appellant filed a motion for an extension of 45 days to file his brief, stating that "[d]ue to unforeseen health issues, [he had] encountered significant difficulties in retaining counsel" to assist him with the appeal. Appellant's deadline to file his brief was extended to August 5, 2024.
Appellant did not file his brief on the due date. Instead, on August 6, 2024, he filed a second motion for extension of 45-60 days to file his brief, citing difficulties in securing new legal representation. Appellant's deadline to file his brief was extended to August 19, 2024.
We hereby amend Appellant's deadline to file his brief. Appellant's brief is due on Monday, September 16, 2024. This deadline does not extend Appellant's deadline to file a response to the Court's Notice of Intent to Dismiss issued on August 13, 2024, where the Court notified Appellant that his appeal may be dismissed for want of jurisdiction.
Appellant is reminded to file a response to the Notice of Intent to Dismiss on or before Tuesday, August 27, 2024, establishing that we have jurisdiction over his appeal. Failure to respond may result in dismissal of his appeal without further notice. See Tex. R. App. P. 42.3(a), 43.2(f).
It is so ORDERED.
