Before Longoria, Tijerina, and Peña Justices.
ORDER OF ABATEMENT
PER CURIAM
A jury found appellant Vernon King Dixon guilty of murder, a first-degree felony, felon in possession of a firearm, a third-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. §§ 19.02; 37.09; 46.06. The jury assessed punishment of life in prison for the offense of murder and sixty years imprisonment for both the remaining offenses.
On November 22, 2024, appellant's counsel filed a motion to withdraw and motion to stay the appeal (construed as a motion to abate), stating he was elected to public office and will take the oath of office on January 1, 2025.
We therefore grant counsel's motion to withdraw, abate this appeal, and remand this cause to the trial court for appointment of new counsel. Within fifteen (15) days of this order, the trial court shall appoint a new attorney on appeal. The trial court shall cause its order appointing new counsel to be included as a supplemental clerk's record in this cause, and shall list the new attorney's name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, and state bar number in said order. This supplemental clerk's record shall be filed within fifteen (15) days of the date of this order. The appeal will be reinstated upon receipt of the foregoing materials and upon further order of this Court.
