Section 635-023-0101 - [Effective until 9/23/2024] Sturgeon Season Above Bonneville Dam

The current annual Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations provide requirements for the Columbia River Zone. However, additional regulations may be adopted in this rule division from time to time, and, to the extent of any inconsistency, they supersede the current annual Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations.

(1) Effective January 4, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in the Bonneville Pool (Bonneville Dam upstream to The Dalles Dam) of the Columbia River and all adjacent tributaries.

(2) Effective January 4, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in The Dalles Pool (The Dalles Dam upstream to John Day Dam) of the Columbia River and all adjacent tributaries except as follows:

(a) Retention of white sturgeon is allowed on February 24 and February 28.

(b) When open for retention, the white sturgeon legal size slot is from 43 to 54 inches fork length.

(3) Effective March 15, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in the John Day Pool (John Day Dam upstream to McNary Dam) of the Columbia River and all adjacent tributaries.

(4) Fork length is measured in a straight line from the tip of the nose to the fork in the caudal fin (tail) with the fish laying on its side on a flat surface, with the tape measure or ruler positioned flat under the fish.

(5) When open for retention, the daily bag limit for sturgeon is one per day, and two per year statewide.

(6) All other permanent rules for the Columbia River Zone, as stated in the current annual Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, remain in effect.
