I would order the prosecutor to show cause why a new trial should not be granted on the basis of the following exchange at the trial.

Q. [ Prosecutor]: Sir, do you know if the defendant is from Jackson?

A. [ State Trooper]: No, he isn't. He's from the City of Detroit. I reviewed his prison records from the Department of Corrections...

[ Defense Counsel]: Objection.

[ Witness]: ... as he had a Detroit address.

[ Defense Counsel]: Objection, objection, objection. May we approach the bench? [Emphasis added.]

(The judge sustained the objection, and issued a curative instruction.)
