ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER
For cause, it is
ORDERED that the Local Rules Committee of the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa is authorized to publish the attached notice, which shall constitute compliance with Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 83(a)(1). I
NEW LOCAL FEDERAL RULES
Significant revisions to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure will, in the absence of any action by Congress, become effective on December 1, 2000. These revisions will have a substantial impact on practice in Iowa's federal courts, particularly relating to discovery. In anticipation of these changes, over two years ago the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa established a Local Rules Committee to propose to the Article III judges of the districts revised local rules. The committee has now completed its work.
The committee proposes comprehensive revisions to the local rules, dealing not only with discovery practices, but also with several other areas of federal practice. The committee also proposes numerous stylistic changes to the local rules. On or before November 1, 2000, the committee will post its recommendations on the courts' websites, www.iasd.uscourts.gov for the Northern District and www.iasd.uscourts.gov for the Southern District. The public is invited to review and make comment on these recommendations. Comments may be made using the procedures available on the web sites, or may be directed to United States Magistrate Judge Paul A. Zoss, 104 U.S. Courthouse, 320 Sixth Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51101, or at 712-233-3921. Comments will be accepted through November 30, 2000.
The proposed revisions to the local rules will become effective only upon approval by the Article III judges of the districts, which the committee anticipates will be on or before January 31, 2001.
