IN THE INTEREST OF M.M.S., A MINOR CHILD, Appellant

On Appeal from the 305th Judicial District Court Dallas County, Texas Trial Court Cause No. JC-21-01219-X

ORDER

EMILY MISKEL, JUSTICE

Before the Court is appellant's November 29, 2023 unopposed motion for extension of time to file appellant's brief. Appellant's brief was due on November 29, 2023, and counsel requests a thirty-day extension or until December 29, 2023, to file appellant's brief.

Appeals in parental termination cases are governed by the rules of appellate procedure for accelerated appeals except as otherwise provided. Tex.R.App.P. 28.4. An appellant must file a brief in an accelerated case twenty days after the later of either the date the clerk's record is filed or the date the reporter's record is filed. Id. 28.1(e), 38.6(a). Rule 6.2(a) of the Rules of Judicial Administration requires that this Court ensure the final disposition of this appeal by the 180th day after the date the notice of appeal is filed, which is March 3, 2024. Tex. R. Jud. Admin. 6.2(a).

We GRANT appellant's November 29, 2023 unopposed motion for extension of time to file appellant's brief.

We ORDER appellant's brief filed within FOURTEEN DAYS of the date of this order. Because these parental termination cases must be handled expeditiously, we caution appellant that further requests for an extension of time will be disfavored.
