EXECUTIVE ORDER

Pursuant to G.L. 1956 (2001 Reenactment) §§ 23-20-.6-2 and 23-20.7-5, which prohibits smoking in certain public areas and allows for the regulation of smoking in certain public areas and allows for the Chief Justice under G.L. 1956 (2001 Reenactment) §§ 8-15-1 and -2, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Effective May 7, 2002, there is no smoking allowed anywhere within the Licht Judicial Complex (Providence Country), Garrahy Judicial Complex (Providence County), Leighton Judicial Complex (Kent Country), McGrath Judicial Complex (Washington County), Murray Judicial Complex (Newport County), Traffic Tribunal (Providence County), 5 Hill Street, Pawtucket (Judicial Records Center), 24 Weybosset Street, Providence (John E. Fogarty Judicial Annex), and any other buildings or facilities the Rhode Island Judiciary may acquire, operate, or build in the future.

The Sheriff's Department and the Capitol Police are expected to enforce this policy as it pertains to the public. Violators of this order may be subject to the penalties provided in G.L. 1956 (2001 Reenactment) §§ 23-20.6-2 and 23-20.7-7.

Entered as an Executive Order this 7th day of May, 2002.
