Application of Tucker

Supreme Court of Louisiana
Feb 8, 1980
381 So. 2d 1203 (La. 1980)

Opinion

No. 66745.

February 8, 1980.

In re Carole Shelby Carnes Tucker, applying for permission to take the Louisiana Bar Examination, etc.

Application denied.

DIXON, J., is of the opinion this applicant should be permitted to take the bar examination. Her qualifications are apparently better than any applicant who has petitioned this court to take the bar exam in the last 9 years. We have never denied any applicant with similar qualifications permission to take the examination. We have held that the rule must be changed, and when it is changed, this applicant will be qualified. See Cynthia Caroline Dawn Marie Anderson for Admission to the Louisiana Bar, 377 So.2d 1185 (1980).

CALOGERO, J., would grant permission to take the bar exam.

DENNIS, J., would grant applicant permission to take the bar examination and continue this court's former practice of allowing persons found qualified by this court to be admitted to practice on a case by case basis until our rules are changed to provide for a fair and systematic method for evaluating graduates of law schools in other nations.
