On order of the Court, the proposed amendment of Rule 15 of the Rules Concerning the State Bar of Michigan was published for comment at 450 Mich. 1213 (1995). The Court having received no comments in opposition, and the Bar having renewed its request, the proposed amendment is adopted, to be effective immediately. The Court will consider at a future public hearing whether to retain the amendment. Notice of the Court's public hearings are posted by the Court at www.courts.michigan.gov/supremecourt.
Rule 15 Admission to the Bar
Section 1. Character and Fitness Committees
A standing committee on character and fitness consisting of 12 18 active members of the bar shall be appointed annually by the president of the State Bar of Michigan, who shall designate its chairperson. District character and fitness committees consisting of active members of the bar in each commissioner election district shall be appointed, and their chairpersons designated, by the State Bar commissioners within the respective districts, subject to approval by the State Bar Board of Commissioners.

Staff Comment: The November 1, 2002, amendment of Rule 15 of the Rules Concerning the State Bar of Michigan increased the number of members on the Standing Committee on Character and Fitness from 12 to 18.
